Industry Spotlight: Extraction Technician

Salutations
Yeah.  That's lab blasted BHO concentrate.  Pretty neat, huh?

Job- Cannabis Extraction Lab Tech
Salary- $60-90K+ bonuses

Biiig money in concentrates.  Time to get cracking on that organic chemistry degree.

The current market for concentrates in Canada exists only in edible oils, and there is still a massive supply shortage.   I've heard of some massive extraction facilities being built in the coming year to be ready for a fall 2019 change in legislature that will allow for edibles, shatter, E-Concentrates and beverages.

This is a very technical job involving solvent and solvent less extraction techniques for making BHO, Co2 extracts, kief, hash, distillates, live resin, rosin, bubble and diamonds.  5+ Years of experience making lab grade cannabis products is a thin group of applicants, but it doesn't mean you can't position yourself for a good shot at this job in the mean time, with the right type of education.

A knowledge of lab procedures and standards for maintaining ACMPR compliance as well as your unique and focused view of in house genetics and how they will be best utilized in their post-flowering life will be what sets you apart from other applicants in the chemistry field.

Canada has yet to experience the booming and evolving market of concentrates, but Colorado, California and Nevada are showing heavy growth and innovation, and creating award winning products that can fetch a pretty penny, when you manage to get your hands on some.

In Colorado, Sales of cannabis flowers dropped from 67% of total sales in 2014 to only 44% today, while concentrate sales have doubled to 31%, according to BDS analytics.

There are junior positions in this field as well, and you might even be able to land some college credit doing practicums with some of the major LP's as well, once the market opens up a bit.

I can only imagine that there are some pretty amazing year end bonuses for senior staff as well as some pretty dope perks, travelling and showing off your wares at industry trade shows.

With projected CBD growth in the market to be 40 fold (!!!!) over the next 3 years on a global scale, there can't possibly be enough people out there with enough skills yet. Time to BE one of those people.
