Review: EASE (Jacking Gun) by Tokyo Smoke
EASE- TOKYO SMOKE
THC/CBD: 9.03% / 12.02%
Price-42$ 3.5g @ Tokyo Smoke
Genetics- Jacking Gun ( WeedMD )
I don't have a lot of hyper-links for this one... or a lot about this strain and its genetic history. Not for lack of trying- Its just.... a little... confusing.
The Tokyo Smoke page will tell you that this is a genetic offspring of a strain called Jacking gun, originally cultivated by WeedMD. But a short search for EASE by tokyo smoke will just bring up some generic text about CBD rich parentage blah blah blah.
When you look a little deeper, there is a very confusing relationship between Tokyo Smoke the Cannabis LP- and Tokyo Smoke, the retail shop. Now bear with me, this is needlessly confusing-
Tokyo Smoke is owned by HIKU brands, who in turn is owned by CANOPY GROWTH.
However, due to a limited partnership that survived the crazy summer mergers, APHRIA ( Canopy's primary competitor in Canada ) still produces cannabis for the Tokyo Smoke brand. HA.
Reddit User Mister Rahool reports that EASE by Tokyo Smoke is re-branded BALANCE by Solei after speaking with their customer service. And although the THC / CBD ratios are very similar, there are enough differences in appearance / profile to have me scratching my head- Tweed is listed on the package as the only contact info.(?!)
What I do know: Packaged in plain white packaging and slightly cheaper than the similarly profiled Momentum by Doja, this seemed like a good CBD option to try. Package was vac-sealed tightly but was easily large enough to fit 7-14g.
Opening nose: Matcha tea, pine sap, warm woody herbs.
In the jar the first thing I think of is a heavy roasted green tea- matcha. Gringing produced a very light sweetness, eucalyptus and chamomile.
Visual- Jar contents weighed exactly 3.40- very minimal shake. Buds were very tight for what was described as a sativa forward breed, small to medium ( .4-.6g ) but cured to a fairly light weight for their density. Overly dry- but not breaking apart. Busting turned it into dust tho.
Buds had an almost woolen appearance, with long, frayed ginger pistils giving them a bit of a "Grandpas Sweater" kind of look. Trichomes were tan in color, thinly layered, damaged and dry.
Flavor- A herbaceous smoke, with a lack of distinct attractive flavor. It sort of lingers with a chlorophyl flavor that doesn't really seem too inviting. It vapes just like it smokes, but it's very dry and vapes nice and evenly at least- But terpene profile was faint at best in either method.
Experience- I was looking forward to having a cheaper version of Momentum on hand- as the THC/CBD ratios are close to what I'm looking for these days, but it was seriously lacking in the finer details and care that was offered by Doja's Momentum. Being able to sample them side by side, Ease is a solid Meh.
Medical Notes: The CBD content is always hard to gauge unless I'm having issues with my muscle spasticity- and I haven't had any of those in the last 2 days- so I guess its an effective CBD option?
TLDR: A Commercial grade CBD offering that may or may not be the same strain as Balance by Solei but costing a little bit more. 12% CBD with low THC is probably best suited to newer users- I get more enjoyable THC by just blending strains. Flavor was sub-par. Not as bad as Boaty, not as good as Momentum. Does the trick for my MS symptoms tho, just need it to be cheaper~
