Review: Donegal ( Tweed )

Salutations

Donegal -  is a proprietary varietal of Chemdawg produced by one of the first big fish in the Canadian cannabis pond: Tweed LP. ( Fun fact- They are based out of old Hershey's chocolate factory! ) One of the few retail outlets in Winnipeg that also produces its own brands, I purchased this strain from the Delta 9 location, showing their market power as being the first Canadian company to offer legal cannabis coast to coast, first to legally export and most importantly- to be the first to consolidate many brands under one umbrella in an online market place. The Tweed brand is now owned by Canopy Growth which is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under WEED.

Chemdawg is a hybrid strain that has a rather vague origin.   Like many black market stories, there is a lot of inconsistency with lineage and claims to be the real deal.   What we DO know is that Chemdawg is the parent cross of many modern classics.  OG kush and Sour Diesel being widely known and expressive of the pungent fuel scent that the Myrcene typically evokes.   Although predominantly a sativa, many plants tend to express indica traits upon visual inspection and still boast a hefty THC count.

Packaging for this 3.5g product was in a metal / plastic twist top canister, with no metallic vacuum seal.   Buds were small, but tight, about the size of jelly beans. Not the same size or quality as the display model they were showing at the shop.  The container it comes in is just TOO large, easily enough room to fit 20g. Cannabis was nicely cured- but will dry out faster than I'd like with that much exposed air, even when closed.
Consumer info on the packaging informs us that the THC is 20.3%, CBD > .07%

First notes on the nose: Citronella, diesel fuel and pink peppercorn
Vapor: Dried lime and passion fruit, finishing on a savory musty note, that reminds me of an old attic.  Smooth on the draw and clean on the exhale.  Overall the aroma was probably the most memorable thing about Donegal.  I feel like the buds were medium grade for this varietal, assuming you're probably going to find higher quality at the Tweed store itself ( I would hope ) Packaged on August 21, buds didn't seem as freshly cured as I might have liked, perhaps contributing to the musty finish.

Long story short:
Highly fragrant, attractive terpene profile with lots of citrus and diesel
Creatively stimulating wakeful, appetite stimulating, socializing
Packaging container was overly large for the contents, not sealed air tight
