Squirreling it away

Salutations

The leaves are almost all down now.  Which means that the snow is coming soon. Now the real question in Winnipeg is.... Will it ruin Halloween with a freak blizzard? Or will it be bizarrely warm until December?  its 50/50 these days

It seems that the local cannabis enthusiasts are predicting the former and are getting into hoarder mode.  And by that- I mean buying up all the MJ in town and stuffing it in the freezer with all of the frozen cabbage rolls and left over turkey from thanksgiving.   Winnipeggers have evolved to have large fat stores, surviving off of carbohydrates and double double coffees. This leads me to believe  that we shall be resilient in the face of green outs as well ( When the city has gone dry: or weed barren )

The local media has been quite abuzz about the possibility of a supply shortage. Our distribution model here in Manitoba, is controlled by the Liquor and Lotteries- meaning that all product moves from licensed producers ( LP's) that have contracts with the major retailers- Thru a government agency that ensures proper documentation, tariffs and labeling.   Which is a bit of a log jam- and they were quoted as saying that were able to provide "Substantially less cannabis than originally requested."  CBC news- Manitoba Cannabis Demand-Supply

Local shops have scaled back the availability of many products to ensure that they are still able to offer SOMETHING if sales keep up at the rate they are going.  One of the local online sites is showing only 1 product available as of 11am this morning- Which is their lowest THC product ( Lemon Skunk )  Other local shops are showing a broader availability, but prices are significantly higher-  16$/G for the previously reviewed Keats.

Online delivery seems to the other big game in town.  The cannabis courier model is something that is really starting to take off and you can order from outlets who will deliver within 24 hrs for a small price.      The pictures and descriptions on many websites are often more informative than sniffing a mostly closed jar with a lineup of people behind you.  Several of the online shops I have looked at this morning are showing almost half of their products as sold out- and the pricing is very high as well 8-16$. I have been keeping an eye out for any mention of "compassionate pricing" for medical patients- to no avail.  But that will be my focus for another article this week.

Listening to social media has given me clues about a thriving black market with some extremely low prices out west in British Columbia- with 5$/G or 100$ Oz available for delivery.   The market out west has had a booming grey market of medical / dispensary growers who have been displaced by the new federally licensed producers and are still doing their thing- but for a lot less $$$ than your Friendly Local Cannabis Store ( Henceforth FLCS )

Will this force premium strains higher in price as availability tightens? Will we all be smoking the Snicklefritz in a month or two while all the good pot is hoarded in Tuxedo basements? Only time will tell.  But if you haven't already- you should msg your old supplier and say HI! They probably really miss you-

Oh wait- Want to hear a joke about paper?
Eh... never mind. It was tearable anyways
