Canadians staying in their lanes-

Minister Bill Blair testing Cannabis Driving Simulator
Salutations

Driving while intoxicated on marijuana is against the law.

Specifically, driving within 2 hours after consuming cannabis is against the law.

It has been almost a month now since the Oct 17th legalization date- and there has been no reported spike in traffic offences surrounding the plant.  GO CANADA!

Granted this has been a fairly limited sample size, and the CBC report linked above does not have data from every major municpality yet, but from Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax and more- there doesn't seem to be a problem with stoned drivers getting arrested.

The Drager Drug Test 5000 has only been purchased by a few major police forces across the country so far, and there has not been a reported instance of its use since Oct 17.   One lawyer has her case already prepared to challenge any roadside impairment charges stemming from the use of this device, so it doesn't sound like it is going to be used willy nilly.

So far, police are using their judgement and other field sobriety tests to deal with suspected impairment.  The main message from law enforcement seems to be- Learn to store your weed properly- it varies province to province.

In Manitoba-  ( this was news to me ) You must make sure your cannabis is stored in a sealed containter in the trunk of your vehicle, and NO- you can't smoke in your car, even if its parked and you have no plans to drive.    Other provinces may have slightly different regulations- always best to check with your provincial guidelines to avoid anything problematic.

Carrying your cannabis in a smell-proof sealed container can help eliminate a lot of unwanted looks if you're outside of your home.  Don't drive while high, but if you are pulled over and the cops start asking you about that funky smell- Just help em out, let them know you possess a small amount of legally purchased cannabis in the trunk and that you smoked at least 2 hrs prior.

Apparently there is a VR simulator that allows you to experience driving while high on weed.
This is a picture of Minister of Organized Crime Reduction and Border Security- Bill Blair taking a test spin.  I wonder if he's rocking some Journey on the stereo....
