3. Jean Guy by 7Acres
4. Prairie Fire by Delta 9
5. Cold Creek Kush by GreenTec ( Alberta craft cannabis )
6. Ghost Train Haze
7. G.S.C. by Canna Farms
8. White Shark by Color Cannabis
9. Wappa by Namaste
10. Pink Kush by Canna Farms
1. Broken Coast has gained an almost cult like following this year, with great genetics and a small-batch, craft quality mentality. Gabriola is a proprietary strain ( AKA: Frost Monster ) that has set itself apart from its contemporaries with its swollen trichome laden calyx's, unique earthen-citrus funk and bombastic effects stemming from a +22% THC offering. ( Altho I have seen recent batches as low as 16%) I bought several batches over the year and they were always a me-pleaser.
2. Cloudburst by Van Der Pop is a Cold Creek Kush stinkbomb with a terpene forward profile that stems from MK Ultra and Chem Dawg origins. Pine, lime, gas and skunk are really my jam and this was all of that. I purchased this strain 4 times this year and buds were consistently well prepared and cured to a kinetic sand consistency. With THC between 22%-24% and a price tag of 11.50$/g it was consistently a solid purchase.
3. Jean Guy from 7Acres was well rounded in its wonderful presentation of huge, moon-rock buds, over the top tropical lime aroma / flavor and a potency that lent itself to nearly any application without diminishing returns. Price point was over 15$/g here in MB, so I didn't find myself going back to this one more than twice, but I savored every last crumb of it.
4. Delta 9 is Manitoba's home team grower and retailer. They've got great customer service and the best retail prices in town. Their first Premium offering "Prairie Fire" is a proprietary phenotype of Sensi Star, which retails for around 16$/g at around 23% THC. Altho on the pricier end of the spectrum, this strain delivered a deep, comforting effect. With loads of energy stimulation that helped ease out of a hard day and into a great night. Was one of my favorite medical ( THC ) picks for the year.
5. Cold Creek Kush by GreenTec is fairly similar in profile, price and effect to the Van Der Pop version mentioned above, with massive, perfectly trimmed, stinky, sticky buds. The negligible difference ended up being a little less gassy- and perhaps a little less sticky.
6. Ghost Train Haze by Color Cannabis managed to hold a fantastic balance of candy-fuel aromatics and tropical floral / lime flavor that had me hoarding this at every opportunity. As a fairly true sativa this was definitely the best daytime smoke on this list and would have probably been in the top 3, except for unusually small buds that didn't represent everything this strain had to offer.
7. G.S.C. formerly known as Girl Scout Cookies is a super trendy genetic profile south of the border, which is brought to you by the B.C. growers at Canna Farms. What the buds lack in visual splendor, they make up for in delicious vanilla cupcake flavors and aromatics. Also, it doesn't hurt that testing has been clocking in between 22-28% THC this season.
8. White Shark by Color was another phenomenally tight, well presented package that hit hard and sweet. With a complex profile and a well rounded experience north of 20% THC, this strain was fun and hard to fault. Priced at 11$/g in MB, Color is one of the best values in town when its available.
9. Namaste ( Zenabis ) have developed a dutch coffeeshop classic known as Wappa, much to the delight of mid-range THC users and terpene hunters alike. With face slapping high notes of floral perfume, citrus candy and exotic herbs, balanced wonderfully with deep earthen notes of boreal pine forest floor. The value to THC ratio wasn't as high as it could be with 16% THC for 12$/g but when this goes down in price, or up in potency- I would highly suggest giving it a try.
10. Canna Farms flagship strain, Pink Kush has been slowly gaining in strength as the year goes on, with last harvest coming in at 28% THC. Terpenes can range between .9% to over 2%, with beautiful peppery notes of cardamon and sweet berries with a floral overtone. It might not have the looks of some of its predecessors on this list, but it is without a doubt one of favorite flavors in the recreational market this year.
Honorable Mentions:
Blue Dream by Canna Farms
Galiano by Broken Coast
B.C. Icecream by Flowr
