Ruxton 1 by Broken Coast is the proprietary version of one of the most well known strains from NYC to Los Angeles- Sour Diesel.  And Canadians have welcomed Ruxton with open arms into their lives ever since legalization last October, with new batches selling out locally within a day.

Broken Coast is widely beloved in the recreational market, for their beautiful to behold- "small batch, craft cannabis." Well packaged, perfectly cured cannabis that has way above average jar appeal, delightful flavors, and high cannabinoid levels.

Lift & Co. reviewers have positively endorsed Ruxton as a potent, flavorful hybrid, with just enough cerebral stimuli to overwrite the heavy bass notes coming from the OG parentage.  I have tried it once before, in the first week after legalization, but didn't manage to get a comprehensive review in.

Opening Inspection: 7.5
Broken Coast uses packaging on their 3.5g units, that does not allow for much wiggle room. They also employ the best seal on the market I.M.O. with product always arriving fresh and intact.  This particular jar- the foil was pressed up from the lip of the jar, giving the impression that whatever was inside, barely fit.

Inside was the largest bud I have seen this year. About the size of a kiwi- it was pressed down under the foil and sort of sprung back up when the foil seal made its little gasp. 3.3g and one .2g budlet. I am impressed by its size, but sort of underwhelmed by its jar presence.

Wild- Loose structure, with multiple long protruding foxy tails twisting out from the central stalk. Some minor leaf inclusion inside, must have been a pain in the bud to get this trimmed to even this level in a commercial operation. Certainly hand done- possibly handled more than it needed, and being pressed in the jar, it may have lost a bit of its luster on the outside, but peeling back the layers and it sparkles with milky-tan crystals and short ruddy brown pistils.  Very odd specimen...

Buds have an oily stickiness to them, even tho they were packed almost 3 months ago.

Aroma: 8.5
Spruce tips
, Petrol gas, Pine Sol cleaner, Lemon oil , Clove Bitters. Mango fruit roll ups
The sour, nose puckering quality of Ruxton delivers a heady bouquet that reeks the room with a skunky-kushy quality from distance, but closer to the jar- a more intense cleaner aroma, reminiscent of freshly waxed hardwood floors on a sunny morning.

The other factor, was exhaled vape or smoke, had a pleasant way of lingering, like recently snuffed incense. Pretty big presence- would be difficult to mask this, so stealth smokers beware.

Flavor: 9.5
The opening draw: kush-spice, then into lemony sour, turns a corner with that sour and deepens from burnt citrus into a  mango-papaya mash up, and then finishes back into spice world.
I absolutely love it. Tiny little draws still produce massive, palate coating waves, that sort of lands into the back of my throat and the top of my sinus simultaneously.  Very balanced and inviting.

Experience:9
Three days of testing- and I find myself savoring it almost like an aromatherapy session.  I feel very lively- Shaking some of the road dust off from a tough week.  A musical, loquacious, art inspiring- while still focused and energized enough to get that art finished for once!~  As the jar grows smaller I can't help but feel that this strain has been super fun all around, and I'm going to miss it when its gone.

Medical Notes:
I expected much more insomnia relief from the 22.2%, minimal burn out however. Muscles and mind were extremely relaxed however- gold star for daytime relief.

TLDR; 8.5/10
Ruxton is another world class offering from Broken Coast.  What it lacks in bright colors, it makes back in spades with top tier flavor.  With a high range THC heading up to 27% with some batches, this is a very dynamic product that should please almost anybody looking for a good time. This is the highest flavor rating I have reviewd yet and I will surely snap this up again in the future- gotta keep an eye on in store listings to know when it arrives, because it sells out in record time here.
